How Do I Prove I Own My Caravan?

Most owners never think about it until they're selling, or the worst has happened and a van has been recovered. Proving a caravan is yours comes down to the CRiS record, the chassis number, and the paperwork that ties them to you. Here's how to have all three ready.
The numbers matter most
The CRiS number (etched on the windows) and the chassis number are your van's fingerprints. Record them, and photograph them, today.
1. Confirm your CRiS details
Check the CRiS number etched into the windows and make sure the registered keeper details are up to date in your name. This is the official ownership reference.
2. Record the chassis number and photos
Note the chassis/VIN number and photograph it, along with the whole van and any distinguishing features — layout, decals, damage, custom fittings. This is what makes a recovered van recognisable as yours.
3. Keep the paperwork and tie it together
Keep your bill of sale and any service or purchase receipts. Registering the van puts the CRiS/chassis numbers, photos and your details in one dated record — powerful evidence if ownership is ever in question.
Do it before you need it. Ten minutes now saves a hopeless scramble later.
